The vehicles had all-wheel steering and drive and could quickly change direction thanks to a second rear-facing driver's seat and a gearbox with six forward and reverse gears.
The first and most famous version, Sd.Kfz. 234/2, received a turret with the combat vehicle gun 5-cm-KwK 39, which was originally intended for the reconnaissance tank Leopard, which was projected on a Panzer II basis and eventually abandoned.
101 vehicles were built from December 1943 to June 1944.
